Bee Gone Already.

Okay bumble bees - your time has come.  Summer is almost over, but many of you are hanging on to our Chicagoland warm weather.  It is time for you to be gone for winter and forever…on our property anyway.  How much do you know about this potentially harmful version of this type of bee?   It would not hurt to ask some specific questions about this insect.

1.  Does it produce honey?
2.  How long does their nest last?
3.  How do I keep bumble bees off of my property in the first place?

4.  What action should I take if I find what I believe to be one of their nests?
5.  How do I specifically identify said nest to be sure that is what it is?

All of these questions are easily answered by the good old internet.  What is not so simple, but is most important, is getting them off your property safely and completely.  At the first sign that these creatures have invaded your home or business don’t just hope they will go away.  Immediately call A Complete Pest Solution at (630) 464-1542.  We are Chicagoland’s honey bee removal and control experts!

The Bald Faced Hornet.

It sounds like a new Batman villain doesn’t it?  What will the caped crusader do when Gotham is invaded by the Bald Faced Hornet?  Unfortunately, it is not the stuff of comic books.  For Chicagoland this insect is very real and VERY dangerous.  Would you be surprised if we told you that it may be the most dangerous wasp in our entire area?

Here is what to look for around your property.  If you see a large tear-drop looking nest and it is hanging from a tree or from an upper area of your home that is a pretty good sign.  These insects are black and white striped in nature.  And boy is there sting ever painful!  Not to alarm you too much, but their sting may even be life threatening.

We are not talking about just pests here.  It is one thing to have mice, or ants, or just bugs around your property.  You need to take a Bald Faced Hornet infestation very seriously.  If you believe that these creatures have invaded your home or business do not hesitate.  Immediately call A Complete Pest Solution at (630) 464-1542.  We are Chicagoland’s bee and wasp experts!

What Forms a Wasp Nest?

It is really too bad that these creatures are so dangerous.  There homes are quite fascinating.  A wasp nest is an amazing piece of engineering.  The queen of the hive begins building a nest completely from scratch.  The nest will grow at a variable rate.  How much food she and her “workers” have available to them will affect the growth of their future home and your future nemesis.

Wasps do not swarm the way honey bees do.  They only swarm around the nest location when they fear that the nest is under attack.  When they find a food source they will return to the nest to “report” the location of the food.  As food sources run low wasps will turn to humans to find new ways of obtaining food from them which makes them a threat to our safety.

Before this happens head them off at the pass.  When a wasp nest forms on your property call Kurt.  Kurt Spurgeon at A Complete Pest Solution is your Chicagoland Bee and Wasp Elimination Expert.  You can count on his decades of expertise to eliminate your summertime infestation problem whether it is one-time or ongoing.  Give him a call today at (630) 464-1542.

Understanding Carpenter Bees.

First you need to know that carpenter bees are characterized as “large” or “small”.  It’s those large buggers who cause the most property damage in Illinois.  The large carpenter bees are two to three times larger than the small ones.  If you are inclined to look closely enough the males have yellow sections on their faces.  The general coloring of this species is not as vibrant as a bumble bee.

These summertime pests feed mostly on plants and nectar.  The problems arise when they begin to attack and consume doors, window sills, decks, and fences.  Their tastiest treats are pine, cypress, oak, and redwood among others.  Carpenter bees have 4 stages of life taking about two months before they reach adulthood.

They may be fun to look at, but the damage that they can do to your property could be profound. Take action by calling Kurt Spurgeon.  He owns A Complete Pest Solution a Chicagoland expert in eliminating carpenter bees.  At the first sign of any bee infestation call Kurt and find out what the buzz is all about at (630) 464-1542.

Two Types of Wasps.

You should know about the two types of wasps that may invade your Chicagoland home.  There is a social wasp and a solitary wasp.  The social wasps are hornets, yellow jackets, etc.  They usually have a larger population than those that we know as solitary wasps.  To spot a stinging wasp try to notice them at rest.  If they fold their wings length wise you have a stinger in your midst.

If you are trying to differentiate between a wasp and a bee know that wasps feed on other insects.  Bees, of course are living mostly on pollen or nectar.  Here is another tip…wasps tend to have bodies that are smooth while bees are generally quite hairy.  A hornet should be colored white and black while a wasp is bright yellow with patterns of black.

They may be pretty creatures when viewed from a distance or on TV, but no one wants them to terrorize their family.  Find out exactly what is invading your property and take action.  You can rely on Kurt Spurgeon.  He owns A Complete Pest Solution a Chicago area bee and wasp control exterminator.  Call Kurt today and find out what the buzz is all about at (630) 464-1542.

Protecting Yourself from Bees.

Here is the conundrum…bees are an important part of our agricultural system, but can also be dangerous pests.  Thousands of people in Chicagoland are allergic to bee stings.  You not only have to be careful from a health standpoint, but it just plain hurts a lot to be stung by your average bee.  So it is important to make the right decision in eradicating bees from your home or business.

Bee removal is a delicate process that requires a professional touch.  Most of us can’t tell a carpenter bee from a bumble bee, but getting rid of them requires a different approach.  Bumble bees are ruled by the Queen (Just like in your household!)  Carpenter bees do not have the same social system and are not as vital ecologically as their cousins the bumble bees.

Knowing how to eliminate either from your environment is NOT your job.  You don’t just go out and buy a can of spray and call it a day.  You call the bee and wasp control experts of Chicagoland - A Complete Pest Solution.  Let Kurt get stung, not you and your kids!  Call A Complete Pest Solution today to control that bee problem at (630) 464-1542.
